Firefighters often rescue people from burning homes. Pets aren't always so lucky. An estimated 500,000 pets are affected annually by home fires, according to the United States Fire Administration. What many pet owners might not realize is that Fido or Fluffy accidentally start nearly 1,000 house fires each year.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and other groups offer free pet alert stickers which cling to windows inside homes. Click here to learn more and get a free emergency pet alert sticker from the ASPCA website.
